In European literature, batik technique was first described in the book History of Java (London, 1817) writings of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. He served as British governor of Java during Napoleon occupied the Netherlands. In 1873 a Dutch merchant Van Rijekevorsel give a piece of batik, which is obtained during a visit to Indonesia to the Ethnic Museum in Rotterdam and in the early 19th century it began to achieve the golden batik. When exhibited at the World Exposition in Paris in 1900, Indonesian batik artists and the public enthralled. (www.wikipedia.org)
There are two types of batik, is Batik Tulis and Batik Cap

Batik Tulis
- Compose batik canting is done using a tool made from copper which is formed to accommodate the night (wax batik) with the end of the channel / small pipe which is useful for drawing out the night in shaping early on fabric surface.
- Batik design pattern in which there is no clear repetition, so that the pictures appear to be more flexible with the relative size of the motif can be smaller than the printed batik.
- The nature of batik pictures can be seen on both sides of the fabric appear more flat (see-through back and forth) specifically for the delicate batik.
- For basic color of the fabric usually younger than the colors on the stroke of the motive (putihan batik / tembokan).
- Time required for the manufacture of handmade batik relatively longer (two or three times longer) compared with printed batik making. Batik fine workmanship which could take three to six months.

- Done by using the stamp (a tool made from copper can be formed in accordance with the desired image or pattern).
